The genocide in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was
aftermath of the Rwanda Genocide.

Tutsi’s took control of Rwanda and 2 million Hutus fled Rwanda to
neighboring countries

When the Hutus try to flee and among other factors, it started the
First Congo War.



During this there were 45,000 dying every month.


Rwanda
FACTS ABOUT DRC GENOCIDE

Second Congo War was declared over in 2003

Eastern Congo was extremely unstable now.

Because of this, there has been a proxy war between Rwanda
and Kinshasa Government (capital of the Democratic Republic
of Congo)

The Lord’s Resistance Army, run by Joseph Kony, has been killing,
raping, forcing children to fight and maiming people.

Part of the death toll was the fact that diseases such as HIV/AIDS
have run rampant in the Congo

UN has had their longest and largest mission stationed in the DRC.

MONUC 18,000 people spread thinly across Eastern Congo.

rape, murder, and the use of child soldiers, the first verdict for the
ICC
