Welcome to Math 6/7

Mrs. Sauer

Overview:

In preparation for Algebra I next year, we will explore concepts such as properties, integers, geometry topics, proportions, simplifying expressions, and solving equations and inequalities . There will be an emphasis on word problems and equations throughout the year. By the end of the year, we will have a strong foundation in translating, solving, and applying linear equations along with classifying numbers as part of the real number system.

This course will have an SOL test near the end of the year.

In addition to studying math, you will practice good time-management, organization, and study skills…all of which will benefit you throughout your lives.

Calculators:

Students will be using standard scientific calculators throughout the school year to reinforce concepts.

Extra Help:

Before school help will be available every

Tuesday morning and each morning of a test or quiz. You can come as early as 7:55 but do not need to be here that early. It is an open door policy, so please feel free to drop in anytime.

Come with specific questions in mind to discuss in order to get the most out of this opportunity.

You can expect me to:

Reinforce classroom and school

 expectations

Treat you fairly and with respect

Provide help when you need it

I expect you to:

Be respectful

Be responsible

Try your best

Grading:

A point system is used to determine your grade.

Your grade will be determined by assessments completed in class including quizzes and tests.

Retakes are available on sections of math tests that students have received a D or F on if students have completed all homework assignments and completed test corrections.

Practice will be assigned for each skill taught.

This may be completed in class and at home.

The expectation is that it will be completed to the best of your ability. Feedback will be provided after each assignment. Practice is probably the most important step in the learning process because it is where we develop confidence and competence in our

skills and understanding.
