First Aid, CPR and AED Chapter 1 Notes: p. 1-4 Name: _________________________ Date/Block: ____________________ Why is First Aid important? First Aid is important because most people will eventually find themselves in a situation requiring first aid procedures. Define First Aid: The immediate care given to an injured or suddenly ill person. What are the “Good Samaritan Laws”? The Good Samaritan Laws encourage people to assist others needing help and protect them against lawsuits. When can “Duty to Act” require someone to render First Aid? When employment requires it (teacher, coach, firefighter) or when a preexisting responsibility exists (babysitter, parent). What are the two types of consent and in what ways can the rescuer obtain them? -Expressed Consent: Verbal or nod of head or thumbs up. -Implied Consent: An unresponsive victim, you would assume that they would want care. Define Abandonment: Leaving the victim without help after you have begun to provide care. Define Negligence: When the victim suffers further injury or harm because the care that was provided did not meet the standard.
