We will have our winter party on December 21st. Be on the lookout for more information on this special day to come home! In social studies the students will be learning about economics this month. We will work on some special activities in the classroom to help us learn about needs/wants and goods/services. Homework Helper Homework is checked at the end of each week. Please remember to send in the homework journal Friday morning so that I am able to check your child’s work. Homework is a review of concepts taught in class. Your child should be able to complete it independently. Use a pencil for writing assignments. Please use the front and back of the pages for assignments. **The homework has a link on my website, please use this is you misplace your homework direction sheet. School News and Events Please remember that as the weather gets colder, first graders will continue to go outside for recess. Please make sure that your child wears a coat to school when the weather is cold. It is also very helpful if you write your child’s name in his/her coat and other winter accessories. Thank you for your help! Important Reminders Encourage reading throughout your day. Students learn many words from print in their daily environment. For example, most students can recognize the word stop from seeing stop signs. Be sure to point out print when you see it to your child, and encourage him/her to try to read it. Volunteers Thank you to all of our wonderful parents who were able to come to school for our American Education Week activities! The students love seeing you in the classroom! A second big thank you for all of our parents who donate supplies to our class! We would not be able to do so many of our special activities without your help! Our library day is Monday, remember to return your books! Wonderful Websites Scholastic has some great games that first graders would enjoy! http://www.scholastic.com/kids/stack s/games/ Our author of the month for December is Jan Brett. Her website is amazing! http://www.janbrett.com/index.html Extra! Extra! Be sure to review with your child what he/she is to do in the event that school closes early. At the beginning of the year you filled out an early dismissal form. A copy of this form will be sent home to you. Please review this form and let your child’s teacher know as soon as possible if there are any updates or changes. As the winter weather approaches, be sure to check the local news and radio stations, as well as the Loudoun County Public Schools website for up to date closing information.
