 Some men in London wanted
to send settlers to Virginia,
but none of them was rich
enough to start a colony by
himself.
 So all of them put their
money together and owned
a little part of the company.
 This little part of a company
is called a “share” or “stock.”

London wanted to send
men to Virginia to find gold
and make money for their
company.
 If they could make money
from their colony in
Virginia, their company
would become wealthy!!

 Which of the 5 advertisements do you think is the best
or most convincing to get people to go to Jamestown?
 What realities were left out about the conditions in
Jamestown?
 What changes might you have made to make these
advertisements more convincing or compelling?
 Each student will design an advertisement poster,
entreating volunteers to sign up for the voyage to
Virginia for the purpose of finding riches and
establishing a permanent settlement. Posters must be
include the three reasons for colonization, be colorful,
include at least 4 other facts, and be persuasive.
 Today, all three of them
would look very small
to us, but they were
strong and could ride
the storms across the
Atlantic Ocean.
