Earth Science Research Project: Climate Change
Project 3: 3rd Quarter
Students will write a 3 to 4 page research paper which will include 5 references (minimum). This paper
will be turned in on www.turnitin.com
Overview:
This research will analyze and address the following questions: How has the climate changed throughout
the world over the past 100 years? If data shows climate has been changing, what variables may
potentially be causing these changes to occur?
The paper should address the following:
●
●
●

●
HISTORY
What is climate change and how long has climate change been studied throughout history?
What were some of the earliest signs of climate change that humans used to support the
theory of climate changing?
CAUSE OF CLIMATE CHANGE
Research and describe at LEAST 3 different factors worldwide that may contribute to
climate change
CURRENT DATA ON CLIMATE CHANGE
What type of data is presently available that shows global evidence of climate change?
(Current meaning studies done and technology being used in the past 3 years to analyze
climate)
YOU MAY include graphs in the paper, however, they do not contribute to the requirements
for pages and words in your essay.
CONCLUSION
Based on research completed, has climate been changing, if so, what environmental factors
have contributed to these changes over the past 100 years? If your research shows that
climate is not changing, what are the scientific reasons that climate is not changing?
This should not be an opinion conclusion: simply base your conclusion on the data you find.
** We will go over each of the above topics in class before beginning the research paper to provide you
adequate background information. A PowerPoint will be presented in class providing more information
and will also be posted on class website for review. The PowerPoint SHOULD NOT be used as a source.

Citations should be used instead of any type of footnote or endnote. The citation should be located at
the end of a sentence or paragraph and should be in the following form (Author, year).
All sources used and cited within your background research should be included in an
