Rawls’ 4th Grade News – October 2015 News From 4th Grade It’s that time of the year when we schedule a time to meet to discuss your child’s adjustment to 4th grade. At the meeting, we will talk about social and academic progress, and review the report card. Please bring any questions you may have about routines, grading, report card, adjustment, etc… and I will do my best to answer them. At Back-To-School Night, many of you signed up for a conference. This year, the Conference Schedule is on www.signupgenious.com. You should have received an email invite to the site this past week. Thank you to those that have signed up already. I will be sending reminders home in the Friday Folder next week for anyone I have not heard from. If you have a conflict with the proposed times, please email me and I will reschedule with you. Fall Party Looking ahead… Teacher Work Days 11/2 & 11/3. Curriculum Focus for October Reading: choosing just right books, reading is thinking Social Science: Virginia’s Native Americans, their dependence on geography, climate, and the seasons, VA’s early settlers Math: add/subtract larger whole numbers, problem-solve, investigate elapsed time, and discover patterns *please continue to review multiplication and division facts at home Science: Solar System, Earth, Moon, Sun Writing: Personal Narratives Interims Students may receive interims half way through each quarter. The purpose is to inform parents of how his/her child is performing in the subject areas. Behavior and/or organization and study habits may also be addressed. Students earning below a “C” or have dropped two letter grades will receive an interim. Interims will come home on Friday, October 2nd. REMINDERS Our class will have Physical Education Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Please make sure your child is wearing appropriate attire. Our library day is scheduled for every Tuesday. Don’t forget your books! Friday Folders will be coming home each and every Friday this school year. Please be sure to take care of these folders and not misplace them. Important information will be included in the folder each week so be sure to set aside a moment to review the documents included and sign and return the folder on Monday. Classroom Volunteers We need you! If you are able to help with being our room parent, please let me know We will be having a Fall party on October 30th around 1:00 p.m. and need some party planners! Please e-mail me if interested in taking on this task! I am looking for one Friday Folder volunteer that would be able to come in every other week to do Friday Folder “stuffing” for me. We have the filing down to a science here, so it is a pretty easy job. I am pretty flexible with time of day to prepare them. Please email me if you are available. I am also looking for volunteers for copying, cutting and laminating at school. Shoot me an e-mail! Fall Party! We look forward to our Fall Celebration! It will be held on the afternoon of the 30th (Approx 1:00pm) . The party is not Halloween-themed and costumes are not permitted in school. However, we will celebrate the change of season with some fun-spirited games and treats. Families are welcome to attend. Technology Focus This month, the students will continue to use the Promethean Board in daily lessons. Thank you so much for your support of the Learn2Earn reading incentive program. The program has proven quite motivational. I am thrilled to see so much reading and writing happening! Please continue to encourage students to log their nightly reading. In lab, the students will practice math concepts using both IXL and IReady programs weekly. Finally, I would like to thank you all for your support this past month!
