Your poem should: -be at least 10 lines -contain imagery that “shows” the reader your morning Your poem could: -contain purposeful line breaks and/or structure that mirrors the word choice -utilize specific and intentional word choice Model: A Little at a Time By Leah Andary squeaky hinges faintly reveal steamy clean clinking metal falls heavily into drawers, cabinets creak open and clamor shut. footsteps patter to and fro. muffled whispers drift underneath the morning’s symphony. the covers cling closely, now only becoming tighteranticipation of the disturbance now triggered. sweetly fluttering eyelashes whisk across the pillowcase like a butterfly searching for the most precious nectar. fingers stir, arms extend, legs search for strength. curtains are sent timidly flowing from the covers violently thrown aside. apprehension in rising forces a deep moan, while the kitchen’s alarms continue to sound. tiptoes emerge from warmth- coming upon the chilling air. heels fall lightly, exertion comes to play, and a stand is finally made. stumbling along taking each step in stride. the door handle doesn’t want to open (just a bit of irony to enhance the mood). the symphony keeps on playing and the butterflies dance freely, becoming aware of broken shadows.
