Dear Parents of Ms. Erickson’s, Mr. Pearson’s and Mrs. Galati’s Math Classes,
We are excited about Tolbert’s theme “Pay it Forward,” as well as our focus on
project based learning. While teaching math, some students came up with a great idea
that incorporates our theme while providing a project based learning experience.
As we were discussing and comparing numbers, the students were inspired to
collect spare change for a charity or family in need. This sparked a great project. The
math teachers have a collection jar in their classrooms. We will use the collected
change for our lessons, and at the end of the year the students will vote on a place to
donate the collected money.
Our students are excited to do this! It’s a great way to incorporate our SOL
standards (Math 3.1, 3.3, 3.4, 3.8, 3.17 just to name a few) as it creates an authentic
learning opportunity.
Contributing spare change is voluntary, and your child can bring in donations
at any time throughout the year. We appreciate your support.
Thanks,
Ms. Erickson, Mr. Pearson, and Mrs. Galati
