Cereal Box Book Report
Materials Needed: an empty cereal box, scissors, glue, markers, crayons, construction paper
Objective: You are going to create a cereal box presenting your book to other people. Your goal is to
persuade others to read this book. To persuade means to convince someone to do something. Like cereal
makers are trying to sell their product, you are trying to “sell” your book. Make it creative and attractive!
Follow the guidelines below on what to include on each side of the box:
Front Panel:
 Title
 Author
 Publisher
 copyright date
 2-4 sentences describing the book’s plot (you can state the problem, but don’t include the
solution/ending…you don’t want to spoil it for someone that you persuade to read the story.)
 an illustration that pertains to the book
 your name
Back Panel:
 Create a game that incorporates story facts, vocabulary, and characters and teaches the player(s)
about the story. (ex: crossword puzzle, word search, board game, etc.) If you have game pieces, place
them in a zip-lock bag and put it inside your cereal box.
One Side Panel:
 Story Elements:
o Characters and a detailed description of each
o Setting described in a couple of sentences (time in history and location)
One Side Panel:
 Persuasive Paragraph—Write a paragraph (at least 5 sentences) persuading someone to read this
book. Use a power outline to help you. Don’t forget to revise and edit your paragraph.
