DRUG UNIT PROJECT Part 1: Option 1 “Making the band” Group of 4-5 students Your group is going to become a “band” (rock, rap, country, jazz—whatever you decide as a group). Working together, you will write a song about the drug assigned to you. This is an antidrug song. Make sure your song rhymes and flows. You can use music that you are familiar with, if needed, or create your own tune. The lyrics must be original. You must also have an anti-drug group “sponsor” for your album. Once you and your group have finished your planning, you may choose to record your song and upload it to your Power Point, or you can perform it during your project presentation in front of the class. Song must be 2-5 minutes long. No shorter than 2 minutes and no longer than 5 minutes. Part 1: Option 2 PSA Announcement Group of 4-5 students Your group will work together to come up with a Public Service Announcement (PSA) about the drug you are assigned. This is an anti-drug PSA. Make sure your PSA has a clear and catchy message. Your PSA must be original. You must also have an anti-drug “sponsor” for your PSA. Once you and your group have finished your planning, you may choose to record your PSA and upload it to your Power Point, or you can act it out during your project presentation in front of the class. PSA must be 2-5 minutes long. No shorter than 2 minutes and no longer than 5 minutes. Part 2: Mandatory You will need to research the drug and its effects and answer the questions listed below. You and your group members will create a PowerPoint or a poster including all of this information. What does this drug look like? (texture, color, etc) What does it do to you? (effects on your mind/body) How is this drug ingested? (snorted, smoked, injected, etc) Why do people use this drug? Are there other names for this drug? (nicknames/streetnames) Where does this drug come from? (origin? Natural or synthetic?) What are the laws against using this drug? Where can you for help when using drugs? What is the drug classified as? (stimulant, depressant, hallucinogen, etc) Your entire presentation (including song or PSA) should be no longer than 10-15 minutes.
