Notes from the Music Room
September 4, 2015
Dear 5th Grade Families,
We are very excited to begin working on this year's 5th Grade musical, A Year with Frog and Toad. This Broadway Kids
musical is adapted from the acclaimed Broadway production, about the wonderful adventure of two best friends, Frog and
Toad. Come join us as we track these two friends through the change of the seasons. Enjoy a nice dip in the pond during
summer and then get caught up in the mischief of the squirrels during autumn. Hold on to your tobogans as Frog and Toad
take a dangerous ride down a snow covered hill. Mark your calendars now, so you can hear what the birds have to say about
Frog and Toad’s fun filled year! ALL 5th graders will be performing!
The performances are on Thursday, November 19th at 8:30 AM and 6:00 PM.
AUDITIONS
There will be optional auditions for students interested in specific roles, beginning the week of September 14th. They will
take place during their allotted music time in the morning. Audition material will be passed out after students sign up for
parts. Students can try out for one character, though some students may be given a different part than their first choice.
Trying out does not guarantee a part in the after-school cast. The musical calls for 17 characters, but we will have about 40
singing/speaking parts. *Students should NOT audition unless they are able to stay after school for all rehearsals.
Being in the cast is a BIG commitment! Please look at the rehearsal schedule on the back of this letter. More than 2
missed rehearsals, for any reason, will result in dismissal from their part.
Students who choose not to audition and those not selected for any roles will be in the main chorus. All 5th graders will learn
the songs during music class and perform at the morning and evening shows. No after school rehearsals are required for the
main chorus.
COSTUMES
A t-shirt will be designed for the show and will serve as a great way to remember the performance. The main chorus will be
asked to order a shirt as their costume, though this is not mandatory. Students selected to be characters will need to provide
their own costumes. More specific information on costumes and how to order a t-shirt will come at a later date.
Sincerely,
The 5th Grade Musical Staff: Mr. Fay, Mrs. Thompson, Miss Chrisman, Mrs. Jackson and Mrs. Schiffler
