Classroom Goal: Students will have respect, responsibility, and a love for learning. 7/24/2016 About Me My Background: • I grew up in western Pennsylvania, where I lived until October, 2010. • I received a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. • I received two Master’s degrees from the University of Pittsburgh – one in elementary education and the other in guidance and counseling. • I received my Computer Information Systems certificate from Robert Morris University. My Experience: • I began teaching in the Moon Area School (which is in the area of the Greater Pittsburgh International Airport) at the age of 21 and have taught every year since then! • I have taught first through eighth grades at various times through my career. 7/24/2016 My Family I chose to come to Northern Virginia to be near to two of my three daughters. My oldest daughter is a third grade teacher at Sanders Corner. My second daughter is a first grade teacher in Manhattan Beach, California. My third daughter works in the business world. Read these nightly to keep abreast of what your child is doing and to see if there are any schedule changes. • Green Folders– Check these nightly to support your child’s efforts at school, and to see if there are notices, and to discuss your child’s work with him/her. • Binders– Contain vocabulary for our units of study. Students may begin learning the expected vocabulary before it is introduced in the classroom. • Thursday Mail – Notices will be sent home each Thursday. • Homework is given as reinforcement of school work. If there is an absence, I can send work home with a sibling or have it available for you to pick up. Phone – 703-957-4360 Conferences are throughout the year. If you would like a conference at anytime, please contact me. Report cards will go home at the end of each nine weeks. Interims will go home in the middle of the nine weeks if a students is not meeting the standards. 7/24/2016 Ways Parents Can Help • Chat with your child about school. • Have discussions with your child about the book he is reading. • Review vocabulary and spelling words. • Review math facts. • Review content vocabulary daily – not just the night before a test. 7/24/2016 Health Concerns • Please make certain all medication goes through the clinic. This includes cough drops. • Children will have a mid-morning snack time during school. Be sure you are providing a nutritious snack and that it contains no nut products in any form. See the list of suggested snacks. 7/24/2016 Fun Friday “Fun Friday” is a way for students to get excited about math. If you can spare an hour and a half every other Friday, or even once in a while, from 10:40-11:45, please sign up. You can volunteer at VolunteerSpot.com. 7/24/2016 Let’s Have a Fabulous Year!
