Ms. Carrig’s Class Chronicle Issue 2 Second Grade News October 2015 Hot off the Husky Press… We are learning... Study Guides During the month of October we will conclude our unit on biomes and learn about map skills. Math skills will focus on place value, rounding, and greater than and less than. Any additional support and help you can give your child with these skills is always appreciated. As we look ahead to November, we look forward to double digit addition and subtraction, and problem solving. We will also do our study of Native Americans and learn about scientific investigations. Please note that all second grade study guides will now be posted on the Hutchison Farm Website. Go to “Teams” -> “Second Grade”-> “Study Guides.” A hard copy will be sent with your child. However, should it be misplaced, you can now access it online. Conferences I am looking forward to meeting with all of you at our upcoming conferences. You should receive a conference reminder from me soon and don’t forget to mark our calendar and phone! Here’s the Scoop! Reminder that all students need to have mastered their addition and subtraction facts to and from 8 by the end of this quarter. Please help your child by practicing with them. Remember to focus on strategies such as doubles, making 10, adding 0, and doubles plus one (near doubles). Students also need to be memorizing their doubles facts through ten. Please assist them by reviewing them each night. This and That… Please be sure that your child has sneakers for school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays as we have P.E. on these days. Also, we have library books due each Friday. What Can You Do to Help? Many of you signed up to volunteer this year. Thanks so much for your show of support! If you indicated that you’d like to come on weekly or monthly basis, you should soon receive an email from me about helping in the classroom and a volunteer calendar will come out each month. I hope to get a schedule running by the end of the month! We do have some moms that have stepped up to be “Room Moms” this year so you will be hearing from them regarding class parties throughout the year. I do so look forward to working with many of you this year!
