WOODLAND HILLS SECONDARY
LESSON PLANS
5 days
Content Area:
Length of Lesson:
STAGE I – DESIRED RESULTS
Lesson Topic (Modules, if applicable):
Unit 3 : Systems of Equations and
Inequalities
 Solving Systems by graphing
 Solving Systems by Substitution
 Solving Systems by Elimination
 Solving Systems of Inequalities
 Linear Programming ( Advanced)
 Solving 3 equation systems with 3
variables
Big Ideas:
Relations and functions are mathematical
relationships that can be represented and
analyzed using words, tables, graphs, and
equations.
Families of functions exhibit properties and
behaviors that can be recognized across
representations. Functions can be
transformed, combined, and composed to
create new functions in mathematical and
real world situations.
Understanding Goals (Concepts):
Students use graphical methods to
represent two equations as linees in a
single plane. They strive to identify the
point of intersection. They also develop
algebraic methods of eliminating one
variable and solving for the other variable.
Students will learn to represent regions of
the graph is the intersection of systems of
inequalities. They will find regions that
represent solutions to linear programming
problems.
.
Student Objectives (Competencies/Outcomes):
Essential Questions:
Vocabulary:
Students will be able to:
1) Solve systems of linear equations
by graphing. ( 2 day)
2) Solve systems of linear equations
by substitution (2 days)
3) Solve systems of linear equations
by the elimination method. (2
days)
4) Solve systems of inequalities by
graphing. ( 2 days)
5) Solve real-world problems
modeled by systems of linear
equations and inequalities.( 2
days)
Review, quiz, computer review, and
test ( 5 days )
How do you explain the benefits of multiple
methods of representing polynomial
functions (tables, graphs, equations, and
contextual situations)?


What are the advantages/disadvantages of
the various methods to represent
exponential functions (table, graph,
equation) and how do we choose the most
appropriate representation?
Formative Assessments:

Guided practice and Enrichment from Glencoe Grab & Go
workbooks
Glencoe teacher works…chalkboard is
Good for Promethean Board use. Use end of powerpoint for
extra examples and practice.
Use 5 minute check as exit slip.

Keystone Diagnostic Tool
National Library of Virtual Manipulatives is an excellent site for
use with promethean boards for this unit.
On line activities are very good in this chapter for finding a pattern
and making predictions based on your observations.
Truly struggling students will be referred to guidance/SAP (RTI)
