WOODLAND HILLS SECONDARY LESSON PLAN Name: Mr. Ralston Date: 04/13/15 Length of Lesson: 1 week Content Area: Econ/Gov STAGE I – DESIRED RESULTS LESSON TOPIC (Module, if applicable): Students will be given the opportunity to make-up missed work and retake failed exams on Monday. We will also have a review on chapter 17 vocabulary with the quiz on Tuesday. The other two days will be used to read current event articles and discuss the important current events of the present day. BIG IDEAS: UNDERSTANDING GOALS (CONCEPTS): ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: What is the difference between the four types of unemployment? How does the unemployment rate effect individuals and groups of people? How do the current events of today affect me and my community? Students will understand: Students will be able to understand the difference between the four types of unemployment discussed in class. Students will have a firm understanding of what the unemployment rate is and how one loss job affects many other people. Students will understand the importance of today's current events and how to interpret and analyze political cartoons and debates. STAGE II – ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE PERFORMANCE TASK: Vocabulary will be reviewed and used in current real life situations. A review will be held and a quiz given. Short writing prompts and in class activities will be completed and recorded. Summaries of short current event discussions will be held. Points will be earned for class participation, completion of assignments, behavior. Short writing prompts given on the current events. -Class activities and short writing prompts as well as class discussions will be held to go along with the current events. -Students will have a chance to make-up work and failed quizzes.
