January 2016 Happy New Year Edition

Hope you had a wonderful holiday break!
We are so glad to be back to school with your
child! We missed the class. The first week back
we will review what we did before break. We
want to let the children readjust to our routine.
Snow day information: Please watch the
news and listen for a phone call from
the county. If a 2 hour delay is called,
we will begin two (2) hours late and remain
in school for three (3) hours. These students
will leave school one (1) hour later than
normal. Students arrive at 9:50 AM and
stay until 12:50 PM.
We will read the following
books this month about winter
and winter clothes:
The Jacket I Wear in the Snow
Ted’s Red Sled
The Gingerbread Man
Hop to the Top
The Mitten
Gloves
This month your child will
each make a book with us
(similar to the books they
have done in previous
months). This month your
child will color pictures of
mittens, boots, hat and sled
red and glue into their very
own book.
January art project info
We hope you enjoy the
children’s art projects
and put your child’s art
work on display. We
work hard to find art
projects that are the
child’s work, and not
ours. Your child is
working on fine motor
skills when coloring,
gluing and some are
beginning to cut with
scissors. Your child is
also working on thinking
skills in art (and other
centers), as the children
match, name colors,
count items and choose
materials to use for their
art projects. Last month,
they rolled their candy
cane papers in red paint
with a marble, and
watched the paint swirl.
This month we will be
learning names of winter
clothes (mitten, glove,
scarf, hat, etc) and will do
some art projects that
correspond. Look for a
lacing mitten you can
play with at home with
your child.

More Forest Grove information:
School Spirit day is Friday, 1/15 and we will all wear hats.
There is no school on Monday, 1/18.
Please attend the PTA meeting on Thurs, 1/21, @ 7:00 PM.
There is a teacher work day on Friday, 1/29, and there is no school for students. Progress
reports will go home within the first couple of weeks of February.
Please make sure we have the best phone number to reach you. Especially as we approach this
winter season, you will get a Connect Ed call in the case of a school closing or delay due to
weather. For your info in the case of a 2 hour delay:
