PART I.
GENERAL EXPECTATIONS
The Woodland Hills Academy agrees to implement the following statutory requirements:

Will put into operation programs, activities and procedures for the involvement of parent.

Mandatory parent meetings, PIE, tutoring, Ladies Night Out, School Store, Guest Readers,
Chaperones, extra-curricular lessons and presentations, serve on committees, attend school board
meetings, develop and execute pathways for students.

A school-parent compact found in the Student Handbook complete with a parent sign-off sheet.

We will meet the needs of all students and engage all stakeholders, families, educators, and
community partners to ensure a high-quality education for all students.
Parental involvement means the participation of parents in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication
involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring


It is understood that the family of Academy students will participate in a two parent conferences
a year at the end of each trimester in order to ensure that all students are meeting the primary
goal of learning to the highest possible levels of achievement.
It is understood that parents are expected and welcomed in the Academy - as visitors, as
volunteers, as participants, as students, and as the primary educators of their student.

It is understood that the family (defined as immediate members of the family, including
grandparents) of Academy students must attend at least three designated meetings a year.

Our school resource center is located both in the main office and student services office. There,
families will find valuable information regarding the Academy program as well as community
resources available for families to utilize.

PART II.
DISTRICT WIDE PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT POLICY COMPONENTS
The Woodland Hills Academy will take the following actions to involve parents in the joint
development of its district wide parental involvement plan. We will post activities and information on
the school website. Also, our staff will have representation at Title 1 meetings.
The Woodland Hills Academy will take the following actions to involve parents in the process of school
review and improvement under section 1116 of the ESEA:
 Use parent meetings to discuss academic progress of the school.
 Have parents serve on committees designed to improve academic performance.
 Have parents serve an active role during the school day in a variety of roles dedicated to the
improvement of student academic achievement.
The Woodland Hills Academy will provide the following necessary coordination, technical assistance,
and other support to assist Title I, Part A schools in planning and implementing effective parental
involvement activities to improve student academic achievement and school performance:



PIE will have a dedicated space in the building to coordinate parent involvement.
The building will be made available to PIE and other parent groups for usage beyond school
hours.
The Woodland Hills School District will provide technical assistance and support to its parents on
the many pilot projects within the Academy. At these meetings, Academy parents will have the
opportunity for input into the planning and implementation for effective parent involvement
activities.
It is understood that the Academy is an innovative school that pilots many unique programs, such as
extended day, extended year, uniforms, standards-based scheduling and reporting, etc. Academy
parents must be willing to learn about these innovative approaches, since many of these 21st
Century skills builders are different from past practices. The Academy will provide information and, if
needed, assistance to parents in understanding state academic content and performance standards, state
and local assessments and how parents can assist in their child’s education.
The Woodland Hills Academy will take the following actions to conduct, with the involvement of
parents, an annual evaluation of the content and effectiveness of this parental involvement policy in
improving the quality of its Title I, Part A schools. The evaluation will include identifying barriers to
greater participation by parents in parental involvement activities (with particular attention to parents
who are economically disadvantaged, are disabled, have limited English proficiency, have limited
literacy, or are of any racial or ethnic minority background). The school will use the findings of the
evaluation about its parental involvement policy and activities to design strategies for more effective
parental involvement, and to revise, if necessary (and with the involvement of parents) its parental
involvement policies.


The use of surveys to evaluate parent participation and the overall satisfaction with the
Academy.
The Woodland Hills Academy will build the schools’ and parent’s capacity for strong parental
involvement, in order to ensure effective involvement of parents and to support a partnership among the
school involved, parents, and the community to improve student academic achievement, through the
following activities specifically described below:

The Academy will provide information and, if needed, assistance to parents in understanding
state academic content and performance standards, state and local assessments and how parents
can assist in their child’s education.
Information about pedagogy, i.e., Flipped classrooms, training on reading strategies, vocabulary
development.
B. The school district will, with the assistance of its schools, provide materials and training to
help parents work with their children to improve their children’s academic achievement, such
as literacy training, and using technology, as appropriate, to foster parental involvement, by:
Offering opportunities for parents to receive training.
Provide discounted access to the internet through community partnerships.
PART III.
DISCRETIONARY DISTRICT WIDE PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT POLICY
COMPONENTS
NOTE: The Parental Involvement Policy may include additional paragraphs listing and describing other
discretionary activities that the school, in consultation with its parents, chooses to undertake to build
parents’ capacity for involvement in the school and school system to support their children’s academic
achievement. Choose from the following discretionary activities listed under section 1118(e) of the
ESEA that you do. Your list does not have to have all of these items.






ADOPTION
This policy was adopted by The Woodland Hills Academy on 8/8/2011 and will be in effect for the
period of one year. The school district will distribute this policy to all parents of participating Title I,
Part A children on or before _________________.
