Users no longer have authentication errors if they have Manage Org Unit Events permissions. To reproduce the fix: 1. Create a user with Manage Org Unit Events permissions. 2. Observe that the user is able to create and edit events in the Calendar. Classlist PRB0050070 In some cases, printing an empty classlist resulted in an internal error. You can now print empty classlists without errors. To reproduce the fix: 1. Create a new course offering and enroll and enroll an instructor in the course. 2. As an instructor, open the classlist for the course and observe that there are no learners in the list. 3. Click Print. 4. Observe that a list with no students printed, as expected. Content PRB0050118 In some cases, the process for retrieving content in nested structures (submodules) caused poor performance in CPU usage and tempdb usage processes. Some database performance improvements were added for retrieving content in nested structures (submodules). To reproduce the fix: 1. Create some content in a submodule. 2. Observe that when you attempt to access the content, the retrieval no longer causes performance issues. © 2015 by D2L Corporation. All rights reserved. 13 Brightspace Platform 10.5.3 Release Notes Fixed Issues PRB0050072 In some cases, the logic for due date for a Dropbox item was different depending on whether you created the due date from Dropbox or Content. In Content you were not able to set a due date that is the same as the start or end date for the item; however, in Dropbox, you could set them as the same date. This caused invalid date errors. Both Dropbox and Content now have consistent logic to allow the due date to be the same as the start or end date. To reproduce the fix: 1. Create a new Dropbox folder using the Dropbox tool. 2. Set a start date or end date that is the same as a due date. 3. Observe that there are no errors. Copy Course Content PRB 0 0 49766 In some cases, content description text in the Overview area that was exported and imported into another course did not overwrite the description text as expected. The course overview text is now properly imported using course export and course import. To reproduce the fix: 1. Create a course in the Overview tab, add a description. 2. Using the course you just created as the source, export the course package using Import/Export/Copy Components. 3. Create a different course and in the Overview tab, add a different description. 4. Import the course package you just exported. 5. Observe that the description in the second course is overwritten as expected. PRB 0049611 In some cases, if the question collection is empty, the associated files in the question collections for the Description, Header, and Footer fields are not copied into a new course. All associated fields are now copied into new courses. To reproduce this fix: 1. Create a quiz with no questions. © 2015 by D2L Corporation. All rights reserved. 14 Brightspace Platform 10.5.3 Release Notes Fixed Issues 2. Associate files in the Description, Introduction, Header, Footer, and Submission View fields. 3. Copy the selected quiz into a new course, ensuring you have included the associated files. 4. Observe that all the associated files are copied into the new course. Discussions PRB0049294 In some cases, printing discussions using the Firefox® web browser did not automatically wrap the text to fit in the print screen. As a result, some text was cut off. Discussion threads in the Firefox web browser now correctly resize to fit the print screen. To reproduce the fix: 1. In D2L Learning Environment, navigate to Discussions. 2. From the Reading View for a topic, ensure that a discussion thread contains more than approximately 150 characters. 3. Click on the drop-down list beside the Discussions thread title. 4. Select Print Thread. 5. Observe that the printed thread no longer cuts off the text. Dropbox PRB004809 1 In some cases, if an instructor was not enrolled in a section or they did not have Access All Course Sections permissions, the instructor encountered an internal error when attempting to grade a Dropbox folder submission. Instructors can now grade dropbox folder submissions for users who are not enrolled in the same sections as the learners. To reproduce this fix: 1. Create a course with sections. 2. Create a Dropbox folder in the course. 3. As a student, submit a file to the folder. 4. Create a user in a role that has no access to sections, but is able to grade submissions, such as an instructor or teaching assistant. © 2015 by D2L Corporation. All rights reserved. 15 Brightspace Platform 10.5.3 Release Notes Fixed Issues 5. Enroll the user into the course you created and select a section. 6. Find the user in the User > Manage Enrollments area and unenroll from the section. 7. In the course offering, impersonate the user you created in step 4. 8. Click on the Dropbox folder that contains the submission. 9. Observe that no errors occur. PRB0049422 In some cases, when a Dropbox folder was copied from another course, users could not add that Dropbox folder to their D2L ePortfolio. Users can now copy Dropbox folders that have been copied using Copy Course Components. To reproduce the fix: 1. Create a Dropbox folder and ensure that the Allow users to add this folder to their D2L ePortfolio is selected. 2. Add an Out of grade scheme. 3. Copy the Dropbox folder to another course. 4. As a student, submit an assignment to the Dropbox folder. 5. As an instructor, grade the submission. 6. As a student browse to D2L ePortfolio > Add other items > Course Results and choose the course and Dropbox folder. 7. Observe that Dropbox folder appears as expected. PRB0050026 In some cases instructors were only able to provide or delete Dropbox folder feedback if the instructor had Add/Edit folders permissions. Instructors can now provide feedback if they have Give Feedback, View Feedback, and Delete Feedback permissions. To reproduce the fix: 1. Create a user and provide Give Feedback, View Feedback, and Delete Feedback permissions. 2. Attempt to provide feedback to a Dropbox. 3. Observe that no error occurs. © 2015 by D2L Corporation. All rights reserved. 16 Brightspace Platform 10.5.3 Release Notes Fixed Issues Grades PRB0040525 In some cases, when exporting a grade item that uses a custom grade scheme, the Assigned Values did not export and import into the new grade scheme. Grade items with custom grade schemes now export and import correctly. To reproduce the fix: 1. Create a custom Grade Scheme in a course. 2. Enter values in the Assigned Values fields. 3. Enter a grade item that uses this custom grade scheme. 4. Click Edit Course > Import/Export/Copy Components. 5. Export the grade item with the custom grade scheme. 6. Review the export.xml file and observe that the assigned value appears as expected. PRB0050139 In some cases, D2L Learning Environment database queries for recalculating grades caused spikes in the CPU usage and tempdb processes. The database queries for recalculating grades has now been improved. To reproduce the fix: 1. Observe that the database queries for recalculating grades no longer degrades CPU availability. PRB0047537 In some cases, the grade scheme symbol did not appear if the item was marked as Bonus. Now, the Bonus grade scheme symbol item appears in the Enter grades scheme as expected. To reproduce the fix: 1. Create a course. 2. In Grades, create a new grade scheme. 3. Save the grade scheme and make it the default. 4. In the Manage Grades area, create a new grade item. 5. Select the Bonus option. © 2015 by D2L Corporation. All rights reserved. 17 Brightspace Platform 10.5.3 Release Notes Fixed Issues 6. Click Save. 7. Navigate to Grades > Settings > Personal Display Settings, and ensure you select Grade Scheme Symbol, Color, and Points in the Managing View. 8. Observe that the Bonus grade scheme symbol appears as expected. Brightspace Platform PRB0050117 In some cases, the process for retrieving quicklinks caused poor performance in CPU usage and tempdb usage processes. Some database performance improvements were added for retrieving quicklinks. To reproduce the fix: 1. Create an item that contains a quicklink. 2. Observe that when you click the quicklink, the retrieval no longer causes performance issues. PRB0044341 In some cases, certain release conditions were not correctly created when D2L already contained a large number of existing release conditions. A datatype conversion now exists in the database to support growing release condition data so the errors no longer occur. To reproduce the fix: 1. Create a points-type rubric attached to a Dropbox folder. 2. Create a release condition on a quiz that requires that a certain level is achieved on the rubric you created. 3. Create another points-type rubric attached to another Dropbox folder. 4. Create another release condition on a quiz that requires that a certain level is achieved on the rubric you created. PRB0048550 In some cases, searching by Last Login in the Manage Users section resulted in inaccurate search results. © 2015 by D2L Corporation. All rights reserved. 18 Brightspace Platform 10.5.3 Release Notes Fixed Issues The Last Login filter has been changed to provide all login results from a chosen day. To reproduce the fix: 1. On a site where many users log in daily, click > Manage Users. 2. Click Show Search Options. 3. Under Last Login, select By Date and check After. 4. Set the date to the previous day. 5. Observe that the search results display all users who logged in on the previous calendar day, not the users who logged in in the previous 24 hours to when you ran the search. PRB0049981 In some cases, users could not authenticate on Brightspace Platform as a result of expired GUIDs in the Single Sign On authentication database. This issue has been resolved. To reproduce the fix: 1. Attempt to authenticate using Single Sign On methods. 2. Observe that no errors occur. HTML Editor PRB0049597 In some cases, Internet Explorer 11 users could not change table borders or background colors in HTML Editor. All rights reserved. 19 Brightspace Platform 10.5.3 Release Notes Fixed Issues Links PRB0049226 In some cases, LTI links were not authenticating with 3rd parties if the sent parameter included empty user lists. Users identified as the IMS Mentor role now only send a list of mentees as part of the LTI parameters if the user list is non-empty. To reproduce this fix: 1. In IMS Configurations, configure a role to be an instructor, faculty member, and mentor. 2. Enroll a user with that role into a course. 3. Log in as the user. 4. Navigate to the course content area and click a link. 5. Observe that no errors occur. PRB0049759 In some cases, a change in the way in LTI launched resulted in duplicate keys not being properly resolved. Duplicate keys now resolve correctly. To reproduce this fix: 1. Add an external learning tool to D2L Learning Environment. 2. In the launch URL, add a query string parameter called launch. 3. Launch the external learning tool and see that the oauth signature is not validated. Navigation PRB0050039 In some cases, when you added custom links to the navbar that were limited to specific roles, you encountered an error for every disallowed role. Custom navbar links restricted to specific roles no longer cause extra errors to be logged in the logging database. To reproduce this fix: 1. Beside the navbar, click to add a custom link. 2. Click Custom Links > Create Link. © 2015 by D2L Corporation. All rights reserved. 20 Brightspace Platform 10.5.3 Release Notes Fixed Issues 3. Create a new custom link. 4. Select the Limit to specific roles check box. 5. Restrict the custom link to Administrators only. 6. Click Save. 7. Click Navbars. 8. Click the active navbar. 9. Click Add Links. 10. Select the custom link you created. 11. Click Save and Close. 12. Impersonate an instructor or student. 13. Observe that the custom link does not appear, and no errors are logged to the logging database. PRB0044792 In some cases, users encountered a timeout error when they tried to load the custom links list. Performance improvements were added to return faster results when using Manage Navigation to load the organization's custom links. To reproduce the fix: 1. In D2L Learning Environment, click > Manage Navigation & Themes. 2. Click Custom Links. 3. Observe that you no longer receive an internal error. News PRB0050227 In some cases creating a News item at the organization level caused blocking on the database. As a result of improvements to the News item creation process, there is no database blocking when a large set of users is notified about a new News item. To reproduce the fix: 1. At the organization level, create a News item at a high-traffic time of day that is intended for a high-volume number of users. © 2015 by D2L Corporation. All rights reserved. 21 Brightspace Platform 10.5.3 Release Notes Fixed Issues 2. Observe that there is no database blocking as a result of the News.
