Record Retention: Information should be kept for 8 years, from the end of the grant, if originated from state government. Information should be kept for 3 years, form the end of the grant, if originated from all other sources. Remember: the end of the grant is the last year (the official end date—even if extended). So, if it’s a 5 year grant all information should not be destroyed until 3 or 7 years after the last year. Also, if the grant has been audited the clock starts after the audit is cleared.
