April, 10, 2012 - A free community event with live music, fun family activities, crafts and food is open to the public for celebrating the Earth on national Earth Day. Hosted by the Butte Environmental Council (BEC) in collaboration with the Environmental Action and Resource Center (E-ARC) and Butte College Associated Students, the Second Annual Earth Day Concert will take place in the Chico City Plaza on Sunday, April 22, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The evening will be filled with live performances played by local bands: Brass Hysteria, Soul Butter and The Resonators for a variety of musical genres to keep you on your feet. Genres feature Ska/Punk, Soul and Hip-Hop. Various activities and crafts throughout the event, including face painting and recycling games hosted by the Recycling and Rubbish Exhibit (RARE), a tie-dye booth hosted by Sustainable Consultations of Office Practices (SCOOP), seed planting, fair trade chocolate provided by the Chico Peace and Justice Center, pedal powered smoothies from Butte College Associated Students and much more. Other highlights of the event include belly dancers, drummers and student D.J. performances from Chico School of Rock. In addition, there will also be a chance to win great sustainable prizes from local businesses Chico Bags and Kleen Kanteen. Let’s “Party with the Planet” on national Earth Day and appreciate the Earth together. BEC has been working for the environment in and around Chico since it’s founding in 1975. BEC gives our community a voice in caring for and protecting our environment. E-ARC is a student-run organization dedicated to providing broad and exceptional means for students to develop and obtain experience in environmental thought, education, and activism. E-ARC provides a free environmental themed library open to students, faculty, staff and community members.
