Welcome to the online application for the Developing Excellence in Academic Leadership
(DEAL) development program. This program, supported by the MSU President’s Office,
Provost’s Office, and Center for Faculty Excellence is designed to provide assistance for
individuals in academic positions with focus on department heads/chairs, assistant/associate
deans, and academic research center directors. The goal is enhancement or rejuvenation of
leadership skills and enthusiasm.
If you are selected to participate, you MUST attend all sessions, be fully involved, and devote
the time and resources required to complete the DEAL program.
Please read the directions carefully, and complete all of the steps necessary for a complete
application. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Please attach a short curriculum vita (no more than 4 pages). If you have a federal grant
biosketch, you can attach that, if you prefer.
Please attach a document addressing items 3-5. Try to limit the responses for these 3 questions
to one page.

Time Commitment

The time commitment for the program is one half day per session for 7 sessions. DEAL meets from
3-5 p.m. on September 15, 2015, October 15, 2015, November 19, 2015, January 21, 2016,
February 18, 2016, March 24, 2016 and April 14, 2016. Also, the sessions on November 19 and
April 14 will be followed by a DEAL-hosted dinner at Montana Ale Works. Participation in all
sessions is paramount as absences detract from the value of the program. Please check the box
below to indicate your commitment to this schedule. We need to ensure full participation so that the
program can remain successful.

Please provide a letter from the dean of your college or immediate supervisor (e-mail is fine). If
your letter is from your immediate supervisor, it must be countersigned by the dean of your
college.
