To: Dr. Melody Madlem, Director of Strategic Planning From: Professor Katharine Whitcomb, Inclusivity and Diversity Team 1, Chair Re: Report #1 – Team Recommendations Team Members: Katharine Whitcomb, Ian Loverro, Roxanne Easley, Ken Young, Matt Cziske, Keith Champagne Recommendations for improvement of shared governance: 1. This team recommends a Campus Community Council be formed with the goal of movement campus-wide away from insularity. The Campus Community Council would be comprised of representatives from the Faculty Senate, ADCO, UFC, classified staff, exempt employees, exempt administration, and student government. This Council will serve as a catalyst for employees across campus to join in an experience of shared enterprise, and will facilitate better communication between all divisions of the University. The President will be invited to the Campus Community Council meetings on a quarterly basis. The chair of the Campus Community Council with give a quarterly report to Faculty Senate. 2. This team recommends increased ex officio membership of faculty representatives (Faculty Senate, UFC and ADCO) in decision-making groups that affect the faculty: Provost’s Council, Deans Council, UPAC. 3. This team recommends that representatives from other divisions of the University attend Employee Council meetings as guests. 4. This team recommends that classified staff and exempt staff be made ex officio nonvoting members of Faculty Senate and ADCO. Follow Up: Paperwork and approval for the Campus Community Council to be codified in University Policy will be implemented. A Campus Community Council Mission Statement will be written. An annual Spring Quarter recognition and appreciation open house for all Campus Community members will be planned, organized by this team, Faculty Senate and UFC. An invitation to join this team will be extended to the Academic Senate Student Liaison, Jen Treadway.
