CENTRAL WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY A SUMMARY OF 2012/2013 SENIOR SURVEY RESPONSES I. Executive Summary ……………………………………….. II. Survey Highlights ……………………………………………. III. Summary Responses to all Questions …………….. IV. Summary of Text Responses ………………………….. Appendix 1 – Senior Survey Questions…………… Tom Henderson January 15th, 2014 p. 2 p. 2 p. 3 p. 9 p. 12 I. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY 1,138 seniors completed the CWU senior survey from 9/19/2012 through 6/14/2013. During that time approximately 1,990 students earned undergraduate and post-baccalaureate degrees at CWU.(1) The survey had approximately a 57% response rate. This report summarizes responses to the survey. The survey questions are listed in Appendix 1. The look and feel of the survey was surely different to students while completing it online. II. SURVEY HIGHLIGHTS 80% of the students rank their instruction as Very Good or Excellent. 70% of students were Mostly or Very satisfied with the ability to register for courses in order to progress to completion 59% of students took longer than expected to complete their degree 83% of students would evaluate their overall education at CWU as Good or Excellent 74% of students would attend CWU if they could begin again 61% of students Agreed or Strongly agree that they felt part of the CWU community Students were asked the importance of twelve academic goals and were then asked how well CWU contributed to those goals. These questions had a four point Likert scale of Importance: Not important (1), Somewhat important (2), Very important (3), Essential (4) CWU Contribution: Small to no contribution (1), Moderate contribution (2), Strong contribution (3) and Major contribution (4). The importance of all 12 questions was rated higher than the contribution. This is expected and happens at CWU and on national surveys. The three questions with the largest “gaps” (the average of Importance minus the average of CWU Contribution) were: STUDENT GOALS: Importance vs. CWU's Contribution - large effect sizes are bolded IMPORTANCE Total replies Mean CWU CONTRIBUTION StDev Total replies Mean GAP StDev Importance Contribution 1,131 3.52 0.69 1,122 2.83 0.88 0.69 4 To develop self-confidence To be reliable (to be on time, carry though tasks, etc) 1,129 3.70 0.54 1,116 2.98 0.86 0.72 5 To be productive and efficient 1,135 3.72 0.50 1,126 3.12 0.78 0.60 3 (1) The number of graduates was estimated by running the CWAAD_DEGR_AWRD_BY_TERM_B SAFARI query for the fall 2012 through the spring 2013 terms. 2,244 UGRD (undergraduate) and PBAC (post-baccalaureate) degrees were listed. 254 duplicate student ID's were removed (students who graduated with two or more degrees) to estimated 1,990 graduates during that time period that were asked to complete the senior survey. 1/15/13 CWU 2013 Senior Survey p. 2 of 18 III. If a response was not given a zero was recorded. All negative ones and zeroes were removed from the raw data before computing averages or medians. 1/15/13 CWU 2013 Senior Survey p. 3 of 18 3.
