a. While the team is in the Exhibition Drill area, an Evaluator/Judge will brief the commander.
b. The exhibition drill area will be approximately 90 by 100 feet. The team commander will
request permission to enter the drill area. The team may start its routine from any area within the given
boundary. Evaluation/Judging and time will begin when the drill team Commander reports to the
Evaluator/Judge and the salute is rendered by the Evaluator.
c. There are no restrictions on the type of movements a team does for its exhibition drill routine;
however, Team appearance, Execution of movements, Precision, Team Work, Difficulty, Choreography
(Dancing/Extra), Showmanship, Dress & Cover, Use of Drill Area and Reporting out are among the
criteria for grading.
d. A minimum of 5 and a maximum of 7 minutes are allotted for this phase. The timekeeper
judge will keep the time. A penalty of twenty (20) points will be deducted for exhibition routines
under 5 minutes or over 7 minutes.
e. A one (1) point penalty will be assessed for any/each piece of equipment or uniform item
dropped.
9
f. Grading and timing will cease when the commander renders the salute to report out. The
team commander need not be in any specific position on the drill area when he reports out. The team
MUST be marched out of the drill area.
GRADING CRITERIA - - DRILL TEAM EXHIBITION DRILL
REPORT IN: Each team must request permission to enter drill area. Once permission is granted
the commander marches the team to reporting area. Commander must report in to the Evaluator:
"Sir/Ma’am/(Rank) Sergeant, (School Name) is prepared for Exhibition Phase". Once the Salute
is rendered by the Evaluator, Time Starts.
TEAM/CADET APPEARANCE: The general impression that each team makes on the judges
throughout the routine. The content of this drill will be entirely at the discretion of the Drill Team
Commander. Unauthorized content will include Martial Arts or Neo-Nazi Movements and for male
teams, feminine moves or gestures will not be used.
EXECUTION: This criterion measures the overall appearance of the team and how well it executes the
routine. Consideration is given to the degree of complexity when judging this aspect.
PRECISION: This criterion measures the manner in which the routine flows and how well each
movement complements the others. There should be no obvious breaks in the routine.
TEAM WORK: How well a team uses its allotted time, and does the routine without wasting time by
repeating the same movements. Does the team use a lot of its time by doing too many counts of the
same movement?
DIFFICULTY: These criteria measure how difficult each move is, plus the overall difficulty of the
entire drill routine. Commander involvement is also important. Silent drill is unique and no points for
the commander’s part relating to voice will be deducted.
CHOREOGRAPHY: How well a team performs in a routine by: dancing, marching in different
directions, complexity, and continuity of its movements.
SHOWMANSHIP: Showmanship measures the ability of the team to execute a routine that impresses
the judges. Audience reaction is important. However, the judges must be careful to avoid being overly
influenced by partisan crowds. Showmanship is a combination of complexity, execution, composition
and a team's overall appearance.
DRESS & COVER: This criterion is closely related to continuity and it measures the putting together
of a routine that is diverse, well organized and not repetitive.
USE OF DRILL AREA: The use of space takes into consideration the manner in which a routine uses
the space available. Does the team spread out or are they always close to each other? (This has a
bearing on such things as dress and cover)
REPORT OUT: Commander must report out to the Evaluator: “Sir/Ma’am/(Rank) Sergeant, this
concludes the Exhibition Competition Phase". Time Stops
IMPORTANT: THE POINTS AWARDED ON THESE CRITERIA ARE SUBJECTIVE IN NATURE
10
AND ARE THE BEST JUDGMENT OF THE ADJUDICATORS. THEIR JUDGMENT IS NOT
SUBJECT TO PROTEST AND IS FINAL.

13
1. CURL-UPS
Conduct this event on a flat, clean surface, preferably with a mat. Start cadets in a lying position
on their backs with their knees up so their feet are flat on the floor and about 12 inches from their
buttocks. Cadets should have their arms crossed with their hands placed on opposite shoulders and their
elbows held close to the chest throughout the exercise. The feet are to be held by a partner at the instep.
At the command "ready, go," cadets raise the trunks of their bodies, curling up to touch the elbows to
the thighs. They must then lower their backs so that their shoulder blades touch the floor/mat. This
constitutes one repetition of a curl-up. During each repetition, bouncing off the floor/mat is not allowed
and the fingers must touch the shoulders at all times. Cadets must try to complete as many curl-ups as
possible in two (2) minutes.
2. PULL-UPS (Males)
Conduct this event using a horizontal bar approximately one and one-half inches in diameter.
The bar should be high enough so that cadets can hang with their arms fully extended and their feet free
of the floor/ground. Have cadets assume the hanging position on the bar using either an overhand
grasp (palms facing away from body) or underhand grip (palms facing toward body). Cadets
begin the exercise by first raising their body until the chin is over the bar without touching it. To
complete one repetition, the body must be lowered to the full-hang starting position. During each
repetition, the body must not swing, legs must not kick or bend, and the pull must not be jerky. Cadets
are scored on the number of pull-ups they can correctly execute. There is no time limit on this event.
(Note: Small cadets may be lifted to the starting position).
3. FLEX-ARM HANG (Females)
Using a horizontal bar as in the pull-ups, have cadets climb a ladder until their chin is above
the bar. They begin the exercise by grasping the bar with their hands, shoulder width apart -- using
either an overhand grasp (palms facing away from body) or underhand grip (palms facing toward body.
At the command "ready, go," the cadets step off the ladder, simultaneously; an assistant instructor will
remove the ladder and prevent any forward swinging of the legs. Legs can be bent or straight when
performing the event. The cadet's chin should be level above the bar. Kicking and other body
movements are not permitted while the cadets are on the bar. Start the stopwatch on the command "go"
and stop it when the cadet's chin rests on the bar, the chin tilts backward to keep it above the bar, or the
chin falls below the level of the bar. Scoring is to the nearest second.
4. ONE MILE RUN
a. One-Mile Run/Walk: Conduct this event on a flat area that has a known measured distance of
one mile with a designated start and finish line. Give cadets a lightweight numbered device to carry or
wear in any manner that will not slow them down while running. It will be the individual’s responsibility
to insure that his/her number is visible to their respective grader as that individual passes the start/finish
line. Start cadets at the standing position. At the command "ready, go," start the cadets running the onemile distance. Although walking is permitted, encourage cadets to cover the distance in the shortest time
14
possible. Scoring should be to the nearest second. Time will stop as each individual completes the run.
