Department of Global Environmental Health Sciences The mission of the Department of Global Environmental Health Sciences (GEHS) at the Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine is to focus on research, teaching, and service to characterize, manage, reduce, and communicate hazards and risks posed by the environment to populations globally, especially those most vulnerable. Nineteen faculty members comprise the department. The department's overarching focus areas encompass factors influencing water and air quality, and disaster management impact on health. Health endpoints of specific interest are: cancer, respiratory disease including asthma, gastro-intestinal disorders, workplace health, and adverse reproductive health. The department offers three master's degrees: the MPH in disaster management; the MSPH in global environmental health sciences; and the MSPH in industrial hygiene (also accredited by the Applied Science Accreditation Committee (ASAC) of the ABET). In addition, combined degrees offered by the department are the BS/MSPH, MD/MPH, JD/MPH, and MSW/MPH. A PhD in global environmental health sciences is offered, as well. GEHS also offers top-quality distance learning programs to professionals in industrial hygiene; occupational and environmental health; occupational health and safety management; and disaster management.
