Course module description:
This module defines the need for management; the scientific theory in studying
management; the importance of management; evaluation of management theory and
management schools; planning and management decision-making; organizational
charts and the organizational structure; the importance of directing; leadership forms
and theories; motivation; the communication process; control forms, methods, and
fields of application; and management evaluation and characteristics of poor
management.
Course module objectives:
 Understand the meaning, nature, role and professional nature of
management.
 Introduce the students to the basic concepts, levels, functions, history,
systems and principles of business process (planning, organizing, directing,
leadership, and controlling).
 Explain the management schools and theories.
 Understand what management by objectives (MBO) means.
 Develop modeling skills such as decision making, communications,
motivation, centralization and delegation of authority.

General revision for the material
Expected workload:
On average students need to spend 2 hours of study and preparation for each 50-minute
lecture/tutorial.
Attendance policy:
Absence from lectures and/or tutorials shall not exceed 15%. Students who exceed the 15%
limit without a medical or emergency excuse acceptable to and approved by the Dean of the
relevant college/faculty shall not be allowed to take the final examination and shall receive
a mark of zero for the course. If the excuse is approved by the Dean, the student shall be
considered to have withdrawn from the course.
