Course module description:
In continuation to the Free hand drawings course (1), students have just successfully
completed. The course will advance by using different materials and techniques in:
pencils, colors, ink and rendering. The course will stress on colored exercises and
training in drawing real views inside the studio (still life) or in the open environment.
Course module objectives:
The course aims at developing and following abilities in students reading to
architectural presentation:
- to draw and present architectural objects using free hand and physical abilities
- to develop a cognition and sense to color effects on architecture proportions,
terms and using proper techniques accordingly
- to develop a cognition and sense to architectural environment around buildings
- to built up a sense of art for basic design principles through clean, clear,
expressive sketches.
- to practice architectural sciagraphy, perspective, shade and shadow , light and
color presentation
Course/ module components
- free hand drafting in pencil,
- in color using different kind
- in ink
for architectural models, elements and components
for outside environmental architectural elements in buildings, historical sites, landscape
and modern building.


There is no specific publication can cover the course syllabus, students will be given a list
of reading books, articles and web sites (as seen at the end of the course syllabus.

Support material: slide show, video cassettes, CD's, data show DVD's, site visits

Homework and laboratory guide: students are requested to prepare a sketch book in
order to practice free hand drawings using different materials and techniques (pencils,
colors, ink, etc.). Display students work, give them note and comments and ask them to
express their views and cognition
Teaching methods:
Students are requested to use their physical abilities to visualize and free hand sketching
and use proper instrumentation for each application (brush, deferent pencils, ink, etc.)
Learning outcomes:
 Knowledge and understanding
Students will be able to express their ideas using free hand sketching techniques and they
will develop their cognition to environmental elements of inside, outside, their feelings,
shade and shadow, light and colors in architecture
 Cognitive skills (thinking and analysis).
Cognitive senses using deferent techniques. Also students will be able to define and
explain their ideas in drawings
 Communication skills (personal and academic).
Architectural students will be able to communicate, define, use resources to develop
their cognitive senses in architecture and environment around.

Practical and subject specific skills (Transferable Skills).
The course will train architectural students and qualify them in design principles
(cognition, analyses, syntheses and thinking) using free hand abilities

Expected workload:
On average students need to spend 2 hours of study and preparation for each 50-minute
lecture/tutorial.
Attendance policy:
Absence from lectures and/or tutorials shall not exceed 15%. Students who exceed the 15%
limit without a medical or emergency excuse acceptable to and approved by the Dean of the
relevant college/faculty shall not be allowed to take the final examination and shall receive
a mark of zero for the course. If the excuse is approved by the Dean, the student shall be
considered to have withdrawn from the course.
