Motor Equipment Services Attendant

Department Introduction:

Transportation Services provides innovative and sustainable transportation solutions that facilitate the educational, research, cultural and service missions of the University. TS supports the UW campus with the following: Parking, Transit,

Bicycling, Walking, Rideshare, Fleet Services, UW Shuttles, and Transportation Planning & Construction.

Job Purpose:

This position supports the agencies transportation requirements by preparing, cleaning, repairing, operating, and maintaining Fleet Services vehicles and Health Science Express buses for use by the University community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Customer Service:

Be responsive to customer demands and needs for vehicles as requested by Fleet Services Staff

Assist customers in fueling, washing vehicles, and inflating tires

Since the rental office is open during the day shift, the primary duty shall be preparing rental vehicles for clients

The secondary duties will include moving vehicles to and from vendors and other tasks as assigned by the Lead

Input vehicle number and mileage into the Petrovend automated system to activate fuel pumps and dispense fuel

Maintain a fuel log sheet detailing manual fueling activities

Drive vehicles through the car wash and hand wash as needed

Remove debris and trash from vehicles, wipe and wash interior surfaces, sweep, and vacuum, disinfect, and deodorize as needed

Maintenance

Perform minor mechanical repairs including change oil and filter, and lube chassis

Perform minor tune up functions: check fluid levels; replace wipers, lights, mirrors, antennas; check tire pressure, repair, and replace tires

Check for body damage and general appearance

Conduct routine inspections for emergency and safety equipment

Monitor and install appropriate seasonal equipment in vehicles

Transfer vehicles to vendors for service and repair; assist mechanics with repairs and service calls

Perform minor maintenance of car wash and car wash equipment

Clean driveways and shop areas

Check-in

Remove vehicle return slips and keys from night drop box

Input vehicle returns and enter comments regarding physical and mechanical condition, cleanliness, and other descriptions as indicated in the computer system

Retrieve, log, and store lost and found items according to departmental procedures

Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills, Experience and Knowledge:

One year of work experience in a garage or service station, or equivalent experience

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except license requirements

Have knowledge and understand of safe work practices and policies

Must be able to wear all proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required

Must be able to follow written and/or verbal instructions and communicate in English regarding the use of chemicals, supplies, and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures

Desirable Skills, Experience and Knowledge:

Data entry experience

Conditions of Employment:

Must be able to work in a non-smoking environment

May be required to accept variable work shifts

A valid driver's license recognized by the State of Washington is required

 Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake and passenger endorsement must be obtained by the fourth month of the employment

Participation in an ongoing random drug/alcohol testing program in compliance with federal regulations and active

CDL

Approved uniform and safety shoes must be worn on the job

This position is designated as Essential Services and will be required to show up for duty during an emergency in which nonessential University operations has been suspended

A satisfactory outcome from a criminal background verification will be required prior to hire
