FACILITIES SERVICES Job Description Finance & Business Services Truck Driver Lead Job Code: 8552 – Contract Classified Department Introduction: FABS consists of FS Finance which manages and oversees financial resources and provides business expertise to enable Facilities Services to achieve its mission and goals; Moving & Surplus, which coordinates the collection and sale of surplus equipment and materials; Stores, which procures and dispenses the inventory needed for FS to maintain the UW campus, and FS Technology Services, which administers information systems in support of Facilities Services’ mission. Job Purpose: Regularly assign, instruct, and monitor work assignments for Truck Driver 2s and helpers. Schedule temporary workers as needed during absences. Duties and Responsibilities: Review job requests, assign staff, and/or provide coverage for operational continuity This requires driving vehicles and performing move jobs when substitutes are unavailable Provide estimates to University departments regarding necessary manpower and equipment for moving services Previewing and estimating time requirements for move jobs which may include contacting the moving vendor to perform jobs Confirm work schedules with clients; follow-up regarding problems Assist in scheduling vehicle maintenance, vehicle replacement, vehicle rentals, and vehicle purchases Monitor daily vehicle concerns, vehicle inspections, and respond to vehicle breakdowns Respond to Safety Incidences and Vehicle Accidents Participate in Incident Investigations and operational emergencies Report vendor problems to the Manager and/or vendor Respond to: general requests for program or operational information Requests for information/action from other Facilities Services units Complaints from customers and drivers Urgent moving needs Provide operational support as needed to other Materials Management units and functions, including: o Surplus store and warehouse o Central receiving o Shops Inventory Support dispatch, delivery routes, expediting activities o Facilities Services Stores dispatch and delivery routes Research and recommend equipment purchases to Manager Attend specified meetings as required Perform other duties as assigned Regular and predictable attendance is required Core Competencies: Demonstrate personal integrity and trustworthiness Manage stressful situations and changing priorities effectively Anticipate, recognize and resolve problems Be responsible and accountable Use organizational skills and provide attention to details Maintain a positive, optimistic and success-oriented attitude Exercise professional demeanor, which includes being tactful and courteous Exhibit a professional work ethic Continuously promote a safe work environment Required Skills, Experience and Knowledge: 07/25/11 Page 1 of 2 High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of full-time experience as a Truck Driver or similar work OR equivalent education/experience; AND possession of a valid motor vehicle driver's license with the ability to obtain intermediate or equivalent endorsement Possession of a valid Class B Commercial driver's license with a Passenger Endorsement (P) and air brake restriction removed Excellent oral and written communications skills Excellent customer service skills Have knowledge and understand of safe work practices and policies Must be able to wear all proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required Must be able to follow written and/or verbal instructions and communicate in English regarding the use of chemicals, supplies, and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures Desirable Skills, Experience and Knowledge: Lead experience and four (4) years commercial moving experience Experience scheduling and dispatching Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases Conditions of Employment: Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B with a passenger endorsement and the air brake restriction removed (or CDL and accompanying requirements must be obtained within 90 days of employment) Pre-employment drug test is required coupled with participation in an ongoing random drug and alcohol testing program in compliance with Federal regulations Substantial footwear is required and must be provided by the employee Must be able to work in a non-smoking environment Considerable field work is required A satisfactory outcome from a criminal background verification will be required prior to hire 07/25/11 Page 2 of 2
