Campus Engineering & Operations
Plant Communications Coordinator
Job Code: 8542 – Contract Classified
Department Introduction:
Campus Engineering provides professional engineering support for the design, construction, operation and maintenance
of all University facilities. Campus Operations maintains and operates critical building systems including fire/life safety
systems, elevator systems, building environmental systems and controls, central clock systems, high voltage distribution
systems, and a utility shutdown coordination program. Campus Operations also provides emergency maintenance
response service to the Seattle campus community, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Campus Utilities produces steam,
emergency electrical power, chilled water, and compressed air for the campus.
Job Purpose:
Operate FM radio communications system to dispatch maintenance personnel throughout the University.
Duties and Responsibilities:
 Operate and monitor a computerized fire receiving station in campus operations; work with fire alarm technicians
via portable radio to facilitate fire alarm testing of University buildings
 Coordinate with trades personnel, building coordinators, and capital projects coordinators the shutdown of
numerous utilities servicing all university campus buildings
 Monitor and operate multiple incoming phone lines
 Coordinate activities of operations center employees; train, give work direction, and assist in planning
communications procedures
 Maintain a work order system; receive and review trouble requests for service
 Monitor or initiate action as needed to insure timely and reliable response of shop personnel
 Purchase and track departmental office supplies
 Maintain key control system and records
 Issue and order keys and make periodic audits of key registers for security purposes
 Perform other duties as assigned

Required Skills, Experience and Knowledge:
 High School graduation or GED equivalent and one year of experience in some aspect of shop related work to
provide general familiarity with repair and maintenance activities
 Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal
requirements, such as a license/certification
 Ability to perform calmly and collectively in emergency situations
 Have knowledge and understand of safe work practices and policies
 Must be able to wear all proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required
 Must be able to follow written and/or verbal instructions and communicate in English regarding the use of
chemicals, supplies, and equipment; comply with safety policies and procedures

Desirable Skills, Experience and Knowledge:
 One year of experience acting as a dispatcher
Conditions of Employment:
