President’s Report - President Dudley-Eshbach:

Jennifer Poole, the new SGA President, was introduced.

The annual Service Awards luncheon was held on February 15, to recognize those

individuals who have given 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 and 35 years of service to the State of
Maryland. Salisbury University has many outstanding individuals who are dedicated to
students and make this campus a great place to be.

In light of the recent self-study in anticipation of the Middle States re-accreditation, the
focus of the next meeting will be centered on how we as an institution can get the campus
community to recognize that we are an exceptional campus and how this can be
translated into how we represent ourselves to outsiders.
University Governance:
o

Student Government Association – Jennifer Poole:
i.
The second annual Big Event will be held on Saturday, April 8. Volunteers to
participate and lead groups are needed. Faculty and Staff are encouraged to
volunteer.
ii.
The SGA is looking into ways to prevent the creation of an anti-Field Day event.
iii.
Changes are being made to this year’s Renter’s Fair (March 6 and 7, in the
Wicomico Room). Potential renters will have to participate in a mandatory
renter’s safety program.
Faculty Senate – Maarten Pereboom:
i.
At the last Faculty Senate meeting, a new Appointment, Rank, and Tenure
document was approved. This now brings the document into compliance with
Board of Regents’ policies and current law.
ii.
The new SU online learning policy was approved by the Faculty Senate.
iii.
Discussion on the new curriculum change proposal is taking place at the dean
level. April 25 will be the date for the final faculty vote on acceptance.
Staff Senate – Clacie Hubbard:
i.
o
The Staff Senate is currently amending its bylaws regarding Forum committee
membership to better represent the interest of the SU staff community.
University Forum – Brent Zaprowski:
i.
The next meeting of the Forum will be February 28. President Dudley-Eshbach
will discuss the Board of Regents’ priorities, known as dashboard indicators.
Data will be shared with the campus community on where SU stands in regards
to these indicators.

Forum committees to replace faculty members who are on sabbatical leave.

President Dudley-Eshbach encouraged deans and department directors to
promote participation in campus governance. Active participation can be very
rewarding.
SU Day follow-up and update on legislative session – Len Foxwell:
o
SU Day at the Legislature took place on Thursday, February 2. Len thanked everyone
who participated, prepared information used at the event, recruited, and allowed
employees and students to participate.
o
The current legislative session is in full swing with major emphasis on stem cell
research and the proposed budget offered by Governor Ehrlich.
o
The women’s field hockey team was recognized for their third national championship
on the floor of the Maryland State Senate on Monday, February 13.
Middle States update – Dr. Ron Dotterer, Chair, Middle States Self-Study:
o
The SU Self-study is available online at
http://www.salisbury.edu/iara/Accreditation/welcome.htm. The Evaluation Team
will be on campus March 5, 6, 7, and 8, 2006.
o
Deans and directors are encouraged to make the campus community aware that the
Evaluation Team members will be interacting with individuals on campus. An exit
interview will be held on Wednesday, March 8, at 11:00 a.m. in the Great Hall,
Holloway Hall. This meeting is open only to campus community members, and
questions and comments are not part of this oral report. Everyone is encouraged to
attend.
Fulton F.A.C.E. and the voluntary Fulton School pledge policy – Tim O’Rourke, Dean,
Fulton School:
o
In a drive to obtain highly sought-after future students, the Fulton Academic Charter
for Excellence (FACE) was created. Included in this initiative are:
i. Several attractive brochures promoting SU’s distinction among other
comprehensive universities have been created to showcase our exceptional
programs. Two examples are:

Panorama, a brochure that lists Salisbury University’s upcoming
cultural events. Last year, over 35,000 people attend SU’s cultural
events.

University Arboretum and Sculpture Collection brochure - SU is the
only recognized arboretum on a university campus in the State of
Maryland. If a group is scheduled to visit the campus, they may
arrange to tour the campus with SU’s horticulturists.
ii. A strategic vision of academic excellence, focusing on academic integrity. A
few components of this initiative are:

providing blue books to professors.

Contracting the software “TurnItIn.”

Voluntary program of students pledging academic integrity for
examinations and papers.
Announcements:
o
Inge Frost, Human Resources Manager, noted that Fidelity and Maryland State
Retirement Plan representatives will be visiting the campus soon to discuss retirement
plans. Individual consultations will be available. More information will be sent via
e-mail.
o
Kevin Carreathers, Assistant to the Vice President of Academic Affairs for
Institutional Diversity, noted that the “Soul Food” night at the Commons was a great
success and very well attended. It would have been a great opportunity to capitalize
on networking.
Next meeting: The next meeting of the President’s Advisory Team will be on Thursday,
March 16, at 10:00 a.m.
