Welcome and Opening Remarks – Dr. Janet Dudley-Eshbach, President o President Dudley-Eshbach welcomed everyone to the meeting and provided updates on the legislative session. o The Provost and Perdue Dean Searches are continuing, with candidates coming to campus for interviews.

University Governance o Student Government Association – Pat Gotham i.
The student subgroup of the parking committee is conducting student focus groups to make recommendations about future parking guidelines for students to include which students should park in the new garage. They will present recommendations to the administration.

The Big Event will be held on Saturday, April 18. This year students will take on small jobs from the surrounding neighborhood in order to be able to accomplish more in a short time. iii.
A new senators’ retreat will be held on February 22, 2009. iv.
The SGA this year will review the SGA constitution to ensure that the language adequately reflects changes that have been made in recent years. v.
The National Conference on Student Government will be held at Texas A&M this year, and a contingent of SGA representatives will be attending. o Faculty Senate – Craig Clarke i.
During the February 3 Faculty Senate meeting, there was discussion on changes in the application process for promotions and changes in sabbatical guidelines. ii.
On February 24, the Faculty Senate discussed changes in the academic integrity policy. The Senate continues to monitor proposed changes to the University
Forum structure. o Staff Senate – Lisa Gray i.
The Staff Senate has filled all open positions. Karen Wilson has agreed to serve as the non-exempt staff member who is not covered by collective bargaining. ii.
Once the new University Forum structure is in place, the Staff Senate will review their bylaws and committee structures to conform to the new structure of university governance. o University Forum – Tom Jones i.
The approval of the new structure of University governance will be completed at the senate level within the next three weeks, and will be forwarded to administration for final approval.

Legislative Update – Rosemary Thomas o An abbreviated version of SU Day at the Legislature was held on February 5 with
President Dudley-Eshbach visiting select legislators. The Hargreaves Award ceremony was held on the same day, with Delegate Adelaide Eckardt receiving honors for 2008.
While the event was considerably smaller than in previous years, pictures were in the
Flash section of The Daily Times newspaper. The inaugural group of Hanna scholars was also on hand to meet with legislators. o Frattelli’s has moved out of the Allenwood Shopping Center and the next stages for constructing student housing will begin.

Human Resources Initiative
– Marvin Pyles o The process of conducting searches has been updated, with an emphasis on recruitment. o The computerization of applications is currently being implemented with the introduction of Phase I, the electronic submission of applications. Phase II, the accessibility of search committee chairs to the submitted applications, will be implemented in late spring. o New policies on smoking, pets, and storage have been implemented. Please consult the

Nassawango Field Station Research Proposal – Karen Olmstead o Biology professor Dr. Joan Maloof provided an update on the Nassawango research station proposal. The station is the result of collaboration between Salisbury
University and The Nature Conservancy. It promotes the preservation and restoration goals of The Nature Conservancy while providing a location for SU to supplement classroom learning with field experience. One example of the type of research to be studied would be gray water recycling.
Clinton Global Initiative
– Dr. Janet Dudley-Eshbach o President Dudley-Eshbach recently attended the Clinton Global Initiative conference in Houston Texas. The University has a number of opportunities to get involved in
The Initiative in the areas of sustainability and civic engagement.
Global Service Project in Mexico – Brian Stiegle r o Brian Stiegler provided an update on his recent visit to Aguascalientes, Mexico to investigate the possibility of transplanting the newly-formed Global Service Project alternative spring break to that site. This would involve exploring ideas for student internships, faculty and student exchanges, and other collaborations. The project is still in the planning stages.
The next meeting of the President’s Advisory Team scheduled for March 12, 2009 will be cancelled.
