1) Abridged life table module (p.287). Do this excel module to confirm that you understand
how to construct an abridged life table. No need to hand in your output for this.
2) Do exercise 1 on page 295.
3) Do exercise 5 on page 296.
4) Complete the following life table. As with other exercises, this will be much, much easier
to do in a spreadsheet than with a hand calculator. Hint – remember that the number of
deaths needs to be a round number (people cannot partially die). Use the “ROUND”
function in Excel to round the calculated number of deaths down to the nearest integer.
