GIS GIS stands for Geo-spatial Information Systems. GIS is a series of software programs designed to perform analysis of spatial data and produce information about that data in the form of cartographic maps. Spatial Data INPUT GIS Computer Software Information / Maps OUTPUT Information… and sometimes evidence and knowledge… are increasingly available on the internet. Where to find that information, how to analyze it, and how to assess its quality are of the utmost importance. GIS plays a critical role in that understanding. MATC and GIS Milwaukee Area Technical College currently offers a Certificate of Completion in GIS. Students can earn their Certificate by enrolling and completing the following Natural Science courses: Natsci 251: Introduction to GIS I. 3 Credits. An introduction to ArcGIS software and Cartographic Principles. Natsci 252: GIS II: Spatial Analyst. 3 Credits. An introduction to the various techniques used in spatial analysis. Natsci 253: GIS III: 3-D Analyst, Geostatistics, and Geodatabases. 3 Credits. An introduction to 3-D Analyst, Geostatistical Analyst, Geodatabases and GPS instrumentation and data collection.
