Development propose to work together to bring awareness concerning service animals on the Ball State
campus. A series of seminars will be held to discuss policies as well as state and federal laws pertaining
to service animals. A representative from an organization which trains service dogs will be invited to
give demonstrations and talk about training dogs to perform tasks to assist people with disabilities.
Finally, BSU staff, faculty and students with service animals will hold a panel discussion to answer
questions and discuss how a service animal assists them in their daily lives. Being that March is disability
awareness month, these seminars will be held throughout the month of March in an attempt to
accommodate various schedules and provide several opportunities for the Ball State community to
attend these seminars.
By conducting these seminars, a deeper understanding and awareness of service animals will be
brought to the Ball State campus. By educating the BSU community on what a service dog is and what
they do for individuals with disabilities, the community will better understand how to eliminate
potential actions that may interfere with the tasks the service animal is trained to perform. The outcome
of this project will create a safer environment for everyone in the BSU community.
