FAFSA


FAFSA is available for completion on January 1st at
http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. It is important to not put off filing your
FAFSA until the last minute, and you certainly do not want to miss the
deadline. For the 2015-2016 academic year, FAFSA on the Web applications
must be submitted by midnight on March 10, 2015. Please make note of
individual school deadlines.
Please note: It is not possible to start filling it out until you have
your tax information for 2014. However, you can register for a PIN
number at www.pin.ed.gov. Your PIN will serve as your electronic
signature for the FAFSA on the web. It is recommended that you get a PIN
number, even if you do not plan to fill our the FAFSA on the web. Both
parents and students need separate PIN numbers, so both should plan on
setting up a PIN.

Tips
Print address labels to bring with you. Save time filling out interest cards
and use pre-printed address labels with your name, address, email address,
your high school, when you expect to start college and the major(s) in which
you are interested. If your high school guidance office provides personal bar
codes with this information, be sure to get yours before you go. It’s also
helpful to bring along a notebook and pen to take notes.

Information taken from “ism college planning: Funding Your Education Wisely”
Picking the Right College: Choosing the right college that is the perfect fit
for you is a very personal decision that should be based on many factors. College
Navigator is a resource that you can use to help with your search. Start your search
at www.ISMCollegePlanning.org/ChoosingCollege for more help. Make plans to do some
campus visits and speak with an admissions rep. Talk to some students and professors,
and sit in on a class. These interactions with the college are an excellent way to
find the right fit for you! Finding a school that is the right fit for you means you
are less likely to change schools, and that can help you graduate on time and with
less debt.
Why College? 1) More job opportunities-63% of jobs will require education beyond high
school by 2018. 2) Higher Lifetime Earnings-Over the course of a working lifetime a
person with a 4-year degree will earn almost $1 million more than someone with just a
high school diploma. 3) Lower Unemployment Rate-In addition to earning more money over
your lifetime, you are also less likely to be unemployed. 4) Better Benefits-jobs for
college graduates often offer better benefits like health insurance coverage and
generous retirement plan options. 5) Your Family’s Future-If you attend college, your
children and even grandchildren are more likely to attend college as well.
