School of Community and Health Sciences Working bank Holidays for Student Nurses and Midwives. Student Nurses and Midwives are not entitled to extra duty payments and are therefore not required to work Bank Holidays. However, these days are counted as part of their total placement hours. When a Bank Holiday occurs students should be given that day as one of their normal days off for that week unless they request to work that day. Students must meet the number of mandatory hours for their placement during the period of their allocation. In clinical areas that close on weekends and Bank Holidays (e.g. Outpatient Departments) the day should be noted as a Bank Holiday on the student’s attendance sheet to indicate why the student was unable to work that day.
