Impact of the Advanced Stay Strong, Stay Healthy Program July 2011 – June 2012 Statewide Impact Advanced Stay Strong, Stay Healthy is the follow-up program to Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH). The goal of Advanced SSSH is to challenge middle-aged and older adults with new and different exercises which will help improve activities of daily living and overall health. This program features exercises using resistance from body weight, hand weights, and ankle weights. During the past year, 120 participants completed the Advanced class. 96% thought the exercises were challenging. 97% thought their health was better because of the program. 76% added other physical activities to their exercise routine. 73% were confident or very confident they would continue the strength training exercises they learned in the program. The three month follow-up survey had a 51% response rate and revealed: 79% continued to lift weights at home, in a group, or at a gym. 76% agreed or strongly agreed that their ability to do everyday tasks has improved. 78% described their health as “somewhat improved” or “a lot more” improved after completing the program.
