University of Missouri Extension Missouri Taxpayer Education Initiative Our mission is to provide a gateway to financial education through taxpayer assistance. The Missouri Taxpayer Education Initiative program works in local communities to prepare and electronically file state and federal income tax returns and Missouri Property Tax Credit claims for low to moderate-income individuals, We work with clients to impart financial information and build long-term relationships to support ongoing financial education. Over the past seven years, University of Missouri Extension has helped file 22,836 Federal returns with a total Federal refund of over $23 million dollars. Assuming that the average tax return costs $175 dollars to prepare, this has saved MO residents roughly $4 million in tax prep costs. This effort would not be possible without the support of over 20 partners, including United Way, local electric cooperatives, community action agencies, and other organizations. Local Impact University of Missouri Extension worked collaboratively with X agency or partner to provide free tax preparation, electronic filing services, and financial education. In X county, X number of people participated in the MoTax program. You can use additional information from the Family Financial Education MoTax statements to show how others in the community benefit from the program. http://extension.missouri.edu/staff/publicvalue/pv_messages.html
