October Newsletter Mrs. McGehee’s Class News News from 2nd Grade! It’s hard to believe we’re nearing the end of our first quarter! We have a great class! I enjoy working, talking, laughing, & watching them grow each day! Here are some reminders for you: Keep up the great job reading and returning the reading minutes folders on Friday. Several have reached their 500 minute reading goal and some are almost to 1,000! Also, thank you to Beth Scruggs and Kelly Donohue for recording reading minutes! Read, Read, Read! Marvelous Math Skills we will be focusing on this month: Understanding place value, counting numbers on a number grid, fact families, open response story problems, problem solving (addition and subtraction), fluency in addition and subtraction facts, counting number patterns, greater than/less than/equal to, and expanded notation Technology We will be using the “Typing Pal” program in the computer lab to teach correct positioning of our fingers for keyboarding skills. We are also using the computer lab for STAR reading assessments, RazKids and other online reading sites, phonics reinforcement and to practice our math on everyday math online. In class, students interact with the Smartboard and document camera daily. We will use our classroom Chrome Book computers for research, Raz-Kids and word work activities.
