These indices provide an indicator of the real level of manufacturing activity in the economy. They are used in monitoring the state of the economy and formulation of economic policy. They are also important inputs to estimation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Collection authority The information required is collected under section 16 of the Statistics Act, 1999 (Act No. 6 of 1999).
