Date: April 5, 1920 Caption: All Dressed Up And Nowhere To Go Description: Rainstorms prevented Washington area children from their annual sport, rolling Easter eggs on the White House lawn. Cartoonist Clifford Berryman uses this situation to describe a scene of great national debate, approving or rejecting the peace agreement to formally end World War I and to create a League of Nations. Sharing the children’s disappointment is a youthful Uncle Sam with his basket of “peace plan” Easter eggs and his sidekick, Teddy Bear, standing by a White House pillar gazing skyward at the “Anti-Treaty Storm”.
