CHICAGO HOUSING AUTHORITY’S STUDENT EXTERNSHIP PROGRAM
LEGAL
The Chicago Housing Authority (“CHA”) has an opening for two (2) legal in in its legal
department. This externship is for 15-20 hours per week and is designed to provide law
students (2nd or 3rd year preferred) with the opportunity to work in the Office of the General
Counsel. The program objectives are for each extern to learn about and contribute
meaningfully to the legal department, and ultimately to consider CHA as a viable career option
in the future.
Interested candidates should submit their cover letter, résumé, and application via email to: Esilas@thecha.org on or before February 5, 2016. The CHA’s internal
application is included as Attachment A to this announcement along with a Fact
Sheet. Please review carefully.
Students interested in earning externship credit for their work must also attend one
of the upcoming information sessions. Completion and delivery of the internal law
school application by the April 16, 2016 due date is also required.

CHA STUDENT EXTERNSHIP PROGRAM FACT SHEET
Purpose: The Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) Student Externship Program
is designed to provide opportunities for law students to gain experience and
insight into various departments within the CHA. The goal of the externship
program is to attract and engage bright, fresh talent to the CHA workforce.
Program The CHA has Spring, Fall and Summer Externship programs
available. Hours required: 15-20 hours per week
Qualifications: The CHA is seeking applicants for the internship program who
are:

Enrolled as active students in good standing at an accredited Law
school in academic year 2016

Students who have completed one (1) year of law school and who are
currently enrolled as second and third year law students.

Skilled in Microsoft Office computer applications: MS word; Power Point;
and Excel
Skilled in Lexis/Nexis
Maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above


Requirements:
 Applicants must provide proof of current enrollment
 Applicants must provide a transcript of grades for most recently
completed semester
The CHA will provide interns with Incentives:
 On-site experience working with various departments within the CHA;
 Opportunities to contribute to significant projects; and
 Professional experience that can be used on a résumé upon completion
of the internship
First Preference will be given to qualified CHA residents. Proof of CHA
residency (i.e., Client ID or First and last name of the CHA head of house
hold) must be provided with Application
