Re: request for documentation from you
Hello Linda,
In our conversation a few weeks ago we discussed that it is the commitment of the University
Counseling and Testing Center to ensure that all of the sections of UNIV 1020 - Career
Exploration and Development offer the enrolled students the same course objectives, learning
outcomes and related assignments and activities. Our goal is to target and assist the undecided
and uncertain student in a comprehensive career decision making process. The sections taught
by you and your colleagues in Career and Student Employment Services (CASES) were
customized primarily for pre-business students specifically and removed some of the core
components of the traditional UNIV 1020 course, we discussed and agreed that it makes sense to
develop a new elective course in the College of Business with a unique course prefix and number
for students considering and planning for careers in business. This will create a distinction
between UNIV 1020 and a college specific career course and allow students to identify and select
the appropriate course to assist with their specific career exploration, development, planning and
preparation needs and goals.
In terms of time line, we agreed that effective Spring semester 2009, CASES would no longer
customize and teach UNIV 1020 for pre-business students and these sections will be restored as
traditional UNIV 1020 courses. Anyone electing to teach sections of UNIV 1020 will follow the
curriculum developed by Glinda Rawls, UCTC faculty and coordinator for the course.
I hope this helps. If you need anything else, let me know.
Best,
Evelyn

Dr. Winfield,
I am submitting a request to the Haworth College of Business curriculum committee requesting the
addition of a new course (elective) entitled: BUS 2020: Business Career Development, 2 credits.
Nancy Schullery, BBA Undergraduate Program Director suggested that I attached a letter or e-mail
from you to support my request that the Business Career Development course be added and offered
as a business elective.
Would you be willing to send me a letter or email that documents the phone conversation that we had
a couple weeks ago where we discussed college-specific career courses be offered using a collegespecific course prefix and number? In other words, effective beginning Spring 2009, we would no
longer offer the pre-business section under the UNIV 1020: Career Exploration & Development, 1
credit course.
I appreciate your support; let me know if you have questions. This will go to the Haworth College of
Business curriculum committee on April 14 at 9am.
Thank you,
Linda
