Scholarship Application
The Ruby Linsao Early Learning Scholarship will support University of Washington
undergraduate students committed to working with and/or on behalf of young children. Ruby
Linsao was an educator and advocate for our country’s youngest and most vulnerable children.
Her passion was demonstrated academically and professionally by her work with the Carlson
Leadership & Public Service Center, Jumpstart and Head Start through the College of Education
at the University of Washington.
I. Application Process, Deadline and Supporting Materials
Please email your completed application (page 2 of this document) as a Word or PDF
attachment by 11:59 PM on Wednesday, June 1st to Sarah Hamilton at sarahh4@uw.edu or
mail a printed copy to the address listed below.
In addition to a completed application, a recommendation letter that addresses your
experiences to date and/or capacity to advocate for and make a positive impact on the lives of
young children is required. This letter can be from a mentor, professor, supervisor or
someone who can speak to your abilities in this area. Please ask them to email a letter in a
PDF format directly to sarahh4@uw.edu or mail a printed and signed letter to:

Students with strong written applications will be invited to an interview to be held on June
10th, 2016. One student will be awarded a $3500 scholarship to be used towards their
educational expenses.
II. Expectations
The scholarship recipient will be expected to complete the following over the course of the
2016 – 2017 academic year:
1. Present your experience/project at the Spring Celebration of Service and Leadership at
the University of Washington, Seattle campus on May 24th, 2017.
2. Set quarterly learning goals and meet on a quarterly basis (Fall, Winter, Spring) with an
advisor/committee member of the Ruby Linsao Early Learning Scholarship Committee.
3. Participate in up to two Ruby Linsao Early Learning Scholarship events including an
event on July 19th, 2016 on the UW’s Seattle campus where the recipient will be
recognized.
