MPower Initiative
The University System of Maryland Board of
Regents has tasked UMB and UMCP with the
establishment of a special new working
relationship that is designed to promote
innovation and impact through collaboration.
NIH Public Access Policy
All investigators must submit to PubMed Central an
electronic version of their final, peer-reviewed manuscript
upon acceptance for publication. It must be made publicly
available no later than 12 months after date of publication.
Researchers not in compliance with the policy will not
receive the next installment of their funding. NIH is
withholding the processing of non-competing continuation
awards until recipients have demonstrated that all affected
papers are compliant.
Funded Project to Develop Roadmap
Assess researchers’ information needs.
Enrich researchers’ and librarians’ expertise through
education and training.
Visit libraries with exemplary programs of research
support.

Systematic Review Task Force
2012-2013
Vision and Mission Statement
The Systematic Review Taskforce aims to support
research and improve the quality of systematic reviews
conducted at the University of Maryland.
Initiatives
Develop best practices in conducting and supporting
systematic reviews.
Enhance researchers’ productivity through librarian’s
role as expert searcher.
Collaborate and build partnerships with diverse
constituents throughout the University.
Provide librarians with opportunities for authorship and
refinement of expert searching skills as members of a
systematic review team.
Results
Completed systematic searches for 12 projects.

Research Impact Service Development
2013-2014
Phase 1: Thorough analysis of
research impact services, both
prospective and retrospective
Phase 2: Research Impact Task Force outlined
the scope of the HS/HSL service
Collaborate with a faculty librarian to quantify your research
impact for promotion, tenure, or grant applications or to
otherwise gauge the impact of your work. We can gather data
that measure research impact, using metrics such as h-index,
citation counts, journal impact factor, and alternative metrics
for individual researchers or for a group or department. We will
provide you with a report tailored to your needs

GUEST LECTURERS
Advance your students’ ability to locate evidence-based literature, and help build
their research and literacy skills by including a faculty librarian as a guest lecturer
in your class. To arrange for a lecture tailored to your curriculum, contact the faculty
librarian assigned to your school. Faculty librarians provide in-person instructional
sessions and online sessions to distance students
vs.
