Professional Council Meeting Minutes

II.
Call to order, at 2:15, due to technical difficulties
Jane Davis and Julie Rocco Environmental Causes Club
 Green Initiatives
 Recycling bins around campus , from Student Activities
o Facilities takes care of properly discarding of paint and other chemicals they use
o Environmental Causes Club would like to start up a conversation and work
together on a project with the Professional Council
o Student Activities started the Recycle Initiative
 Student worker goes around and weighs and sees exactly how much is
recycled, what is actually trash or recyclable, statistics are being
gathered, since this began about a year ago
 Have begun using pens made from biodegradable materials
 Julie gave out some pens/pen set so we could have some conversation
starters
 At the next Welcome Backs, we will be using paper cups, no longer giving
out water, the students will be able to serve themselves from large
containers from Sodexo
 Becky Nero-Wall brought up the Sodexo reusable cups, Julie will look into
that
 Perhaps look into supporting car pooling
New Members, no new members present or online

Approval of August 24th Minutes, motioned by Bill Harrison, second by Jo-Ann Halloran

Treasurer’s Report, checking account $272.69, savings $294.21

Presidential Updates
 College of Education Building, officially named Nunamann Hall
o Policies for naming buildings (anything on campus), will be written, questions
came up in the Board Meeting yesterday
 Time limits, amount of donation to the college, a morality clause

Council Of Presidents: Firsts Initiatives, $350,000,000.00 monies to be divided among
all Colleges in Florida, Dr. Eaton will keep us informed

Grants received by the College:
o NSF Grant, for Cyber Security/Forensics, DSC is the lead with eight other
institutions, one AS Degree and three Bachelor level courses will be developed.
Total amount for the grant 1.8 million, half will stay at DSC, the rest is doled out
to the other 8 institutions
o Trade Adjustment Assistant Grant, $500,000,000.00 was awarded to colleges
across the country, $27 million to Florida colleges. DSC will receive $687,000.00.

Enrollment Report
o Down 9.4 %, FTE 10.5%, we were expected to be down 16%
o Total head count 17, 643.

Veteran’s Center officially opened

Dr. Vitale highlighted the College of Education with its components

6 of the 27 New Teacher of the Year were DSC grads

Electrical Apprenticeship Program, Union & Non-Union, up and running

Trustee Haas named as the liaison to the Foundation Board of Directors, she is also the
Voting Delegate for the ACCT

Mitch Pietras, Faculty Senate President, highlighted a faculty member as part of his
presentation; Dr. Eaton suggested all of the constituents do this for each council
present.


horn.
Professional Council Projects
 Results of Survey
o Holiday Party
o 96 responses, 66 stated they would like to have a social gathering
o 52 responded to having the party on Friday November 30, 2012
o Jo-Ann Halloran and Bernice Ruiz-Quirós will be heading this project
o We will be joining the Career Employees
o Please send any ideas of local restaurants you would like this gathering to be
o One idea for this year is to have the Professional Council would pay for the
appetizers and everyone pay for their meals and drinks, we welcome any ideas
you might have

Professional Council Logo Contest
o Mike Moore is in charge, 63 people said we should create a logo
o Other things voted on:
 Only Professional Council participation
 Only Professional Council as judges
 There will be a $50 cash prize for the winner from Professional Council
funds

Landstuhl Hospital Support, 64 stated we should support this cause, Bill Harrison will
head up this project
 We will send them what they need most, body wash & phone cards

Other Business

We have representatives from the Professional council on;
o Planning Council
o Student Success Committee
o Strategic Planning Committee
o Teaching Learning Committee
o AUR Committee
o QEP, Ad Hoc Committee
o Diversity Council

Bylaws Committee
o Nothing about if there is a tie during elections or run offs
o Need two or three volunteers to work up a proposal to add these things to the
Bylaws, Jo-Ann is the Chair according to the Bylaws

Regional Campus Updates
o Deltona: Is now putting out a weekly newsletter, it covers DSC info as well as
community events
o Sonia Turick will be moving from Deltona Advising to Daytona Advising
o Deland: A new SGA Vice President was appointed to the Deland Campus, Welcome
Tiffany.


