Experience

Jim Shore is a partner of the firm with almost 30 years of experience representing employers in all aspects of labor and employment law, including labor contract negotiations, NLRB proceedings, arbitrations, trade secrets and restrictive covenant injunction proceedings, wage and hour issues, wrongful discharge and discrimination litigation, safety issues, drafting executive agreements, and business transactions and reorganizations.

Jim served as in-house counsel and director of labor relations for a major Northwest corporation, from which he applies to his legal practice a practical business perspective to help his clients achieve their business needs. Jim is elected as a Fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers for his sustained outstanding performance in the profession. He is also recognized as a leading Washington State labor and employment lawyer by the Chambers USA peer and client rating process,

Representative Work

 Successfully represented the employer before the Washington Supreme Court and lower courts in Roe v. TeleTech, in which the Court determined that Washington's

Medical Use of Marijuana Act did not provide the basis of a public policy wrongful discharge claim or otherwise require workplace accommodation.

 Successfully represented the employer before the Washington Supreme Court and lower courts in LaCoursiere v. CamWest Development, in which the Court determined that the vesting schedule of an employer’s manager bonus policy and investment vehicle did not violate the Washington wage statutes.

 Acted as lead labor negotiator for management on hundreds of union contracts.

 Successfully argued numerous motions for restraining orders and preliminary injunctions prohibiting former employees and competitors from misappropriating trade secrets or violating noncompetition/non-solicitation agreements.

 Successfully defended an investment advisory firm in a breach of employment contract lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington, and obtained a six-figure recovery for the client on its counterclaims.

 Obtained summary judgment in favor of McDonald's in a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a former franchisee's employee in

King County Superior Court. Successfully briefed and argued the case before the Washington Court of Appeals.

 Successfully obtained summary judgment in favor of McDonald's Corporation in a sexual harassment and tort lawsuit filed by an employee in Montana State Court.

 Successfully defended a major grocery distributor in a breach of contract lawsuit filed by an employee in the U.S. District C ourt for the Western District of Washington.

 Obtained a jury verdict in favor of a major airline in a disability discrimination lawsuit in an Oregon federal Court.

 Successfully defended a major grocery chain in a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by an employee in a California state court.

 Successfully defended numerous public and private sector employers in arbitrations with unions concerning employee discharge and contract interpretation matters.

 Successfully represented a college in an appeal to overturn an arbitrator's award. The published court decision created new law concerning overturning an arbitrator's decision.

 Successfully represented numerous private and public sector employers in EEOC, NLRB and other federal and state labor and employment law agency proceedings.

 Acted as lead labor and employment law attorney on numerous national and multinational corporate transactions.
