Activity 2 – Breaking habits
Here are some of the most common issues people have with presenting – which of them did you do?
I never or hardly
ever did this
Fidget
Hesitate
Gesticulate (move
your arms and
hands about)
Hands in pockets
Say “erm” or any
other word
repeatedly
Mumble
Shout
Look down
Talk too fast
I did this a few
times
I did this quite
often
I did this always
or nearly always

Activity 4 – Planning a presentation
My presentation title: ________________________________________________________
Where am I going to go to find information about this topic? (online, library,
newspaper articles, ask people)
Who is my audience? What will I need to do to engage them? What do I need to be
aware of? (language, change of pace in presentation, formality, etc.)
What is the best way to present my ideas and information? (talk, activities,
Powerpoint, etc.)
How am I going to structure my presentation? (number and order of key points to be
made, activities, time-keeping and timing)
What do I need to prepare for my presentation? (props, powerpoint, activity sheets,
handouts, etc.)
What do I need to know about the setting my presentation is in? (room set-up,
seating arrangement, technology available, internet access, etc.)
What do I need to be aware of as far as my own presentation style is concerned?
(note down your most frequent errors from activity 2, i.e. fidgeting, mumbling, hands
in pocket, etc.)
After the presentation:
How did it go? Evaluate your presentation against the following questions:
What can you say about how engaged your audience was?
How much of what you wanted them to understand did they manage to follow?
How would you judge the way you pitched your activities, language, and
presentation as a whole?
How did you handle technology, room set-up, and time-keeping?
What have you learnt about yourself as a presenter?
What kind of feedback have you had from your audience?
